Sugar Dreams of Meeting Obama and Play Some Hoops with the President

Approximately 50 members of the press whiled away several hours on Tuesday at the high-end mountainous training and boot camp of three-division world champion Sugar Shane Mosley, although transportation to and from Las Vegas was courtesy of Top Rank, Inc.

Come the 7th of May, 2011 Saturday, the Pomona California native (46-6-1, 39 KOs)by the name of Mosley will fight knuckle-to-knuckle with Filipino World Boxing Organization welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2. 38 KOs), a native of General Santos City in the Philippines. They will meet face-to-face for the umpteenth time in the main event of the night of a blockbuster event which will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The promoters of the fight are namely Top Rank, in partnership with MP Promotions, Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions, Tecate, and MGM Grand. For those who are so anxious and giddy as of the moment, say no more as the Pacquiao vs Mosley tilt will be produced and distributes live of course by SHOWTIME PPV.

Mosley fans and supporters out there, hold your horses, as Sugar said on Tuesday:

“My energy is great, at a very high level. I have a lot of power in both hands; I know Pacquiao will go right to the attack which is a great advantage for me.” The 39-year old champion may be way past his prime in the world of boxing but he assures his fans and the people who look up to him that he is certain that this fight will be a difficult one, no matter how nutty people see it as it is. He is alert that the Filipino boxer may shower him with punches from a myriad of angles, but pure power only he can exude will take care of everything. Man this guy’s really certain that he can land punches on Pacquiao, and speaking of punches, those little dears would be good, hard, and knockout-inducing.

With his chief trainer Naazim Richardson, Mosley is confident that the trainer is one of his biggest assets and advantage, as Richardson never for once in his life lost a fight against a Top Rank victor.

Sugar Shane Mosley may be a native of the United States, but admits that he hasn’t even met President Barack Obama face-to-face. “I know President Obama met Pacquiao. I can deal with that, no hard feelings. President Obama will always be my man. I will always vote for him. Someday, I hope to meet the President and maybe play a little basketball”. He states with a smile. That only proves that however sturdy a fighter Mosley is, he still is a child at heart; marveling at little things like basketball with the most powerful man on the planet as of today. Well, hold it right there, fans of both sides, before you start ripping put each other’s eyes and pull each other’s hairs, ponder on the fact quietly, like rational adults do, that the two fighters does it for passion. No grudges, they’re bigger than that. I know for a fact that Sugar Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao are both good sports inside the ring and out.

Mosley to Defeat Pacquiao Next Month, Confident Much?

Watch Pacquiao vs Mosley Fight Online - A month into the fight, buzzing hunches and speculations dominate the boxing world and the sports arena as well for the biggest fight this 2011. Many people speculate that Mosley is more than a robust underdog facing Manny Pacquiao. And here’s why I think he’ll get the thumbs up of the boxing world over Manny Pacquiao next month. Oops, did I catch you off guard for a moment? Hope so.

According to an ol’ reliable fight prediction expert, the fight will definitely emphasize Mosley’s string points, but what’s worse is that, equally powerful Manny Pacquiao gives the seething headache for those who want to bet for the victor. Here’s why.

Both fighters showed their flair, and I can’t deny the fact that they both are world-class fighters. Add up the fact that perhaps, Mosley’s contingent will definitely be outnumbered by Pacquiao’s legion of Filipino fans and fans everywhere, given the fact that some blue-chip VIPS even book flights to the US in order to see the match ringside. Even if Pacquiao just turned 32m he’s no freaky neophyte. One of the minor edges for Mosley would be that the setting would not be too unsettling for him. It’s his country, and nothing feels better than home.

154 pounds, all muscle. That’s definitely one big advantage Mosley has over Pacquiao plus the prime experience of a fighter also counts. Mosley is also very adept at using his torso strength and swift body punches while “in-fighting”. You don’t need to look far, watch his clip showering punches at Antonio Margarito, which proves it.

Pacquiao’s major edge by the way is his agility, speed, velocity, whatever you may call it. It’s a rarity for Mosley though, as he’s a bit cranky when it comes to speed. I’d also give my thumbs up and pinkie for Pacquiao with his punching prowess and ring generalship for that matter.

Don’t forget that several years ago, Pacquiao gradually rose to master boxer plus the fact that he moved up with his weight as well, and with Mosley’s declining acumen, he may somehow get a lynchpin at defeating Mosley.

Freddie Roach to close the Wild Card gym for Pacquiao's training

Trainer Freddie Roach is reportedly going to be closing his Wild Card gym while Manny Pacquiao is training in order to limit distractions to his number #1 fighter. This seems like a drastic move to make given how this fight seems to be a noncompetitive fight on paper.

Why would Roach close the guy and mess up generating media publicity for Pacquiao’s fight we’re talking mismatch? Pacquiao is facing 40ish Shane Mosley on May 7th in a fight that will likely end early with Pacquiao destroying Mosley.

Roach, unlike past fights between Pacquiao and over-matched opponents like Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito, is saying that the Mosley-Pacquiao fight won’t be an easy one for Pacquiao.

This seems to fly in the face of logic, however, because Mosley has been looking poor in his recent fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora. One of the things that have made Roach so refreshing in the past was his ability to be upfront with fans about his views on some of the mismatches involving Pacquiao and his opponents.

But has Roach suddenly changed course for Pacquiao’s fight against Mosley? You have to wonder because this fight, perhaps more than any other fight for Pacquiao except for the Joshua Clottey fight appears to be a huge mismatch because of how badly Mosley is struggling at this point in his career.
